Based on ideas I've built a [mockup in HTML]. What's been learnt:

• The whole page needs to be refreshed every time a button is pressed if we're to keep Java script low/zero. I'm very happy with that. Though things may be slowed up if accessing a remote server it will give us more power for the logic.
• May want to have Freeze/Unfreeze? buttons for each line to reduce download times.
• May want to have following global buttons:
  • Unfreeze All
  • Freeze All
  • Or All
  • And All

And here's some screenshots of a BeOS? query builder. Notice the ANDs and ORs. Managed to get BeOS? up and running on an old PC - very impressed with its clean interface:

And here's [Retrospect] with it's ability to build very complex queries. Need to merge this kind of complexity with a more simple and immediate interface.
