Dear All,
Exciting news for you...
1. Kendra goes to Bollywood January - come along - support us
2. Knight News Challenge encourages Kendra Hub resubmission
3. Kendra Hub competition extended to December 15th - still time to
comment
4. Happy festivities - go for your BIG dream in 2010
1. KENDRA GOES TO BOLLYWOOD JANUARY - COME ALONG - SUPPORT US
I am very excited that Kendra Initiative is continuing its world tour in
Mumbai in January 2010. Sudhir Shreedharan has stepped up to help us
introduce Kendra to Bollywood entertainment and media industry executives
and discuss the future of content distribution. Sudhir is the Managing
Director of Music2Deal Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd and former editor-in-chief of
The Indian Music Talks - The Indian Music Industry newsletter. Sudhir has
grown up with the Indian music industry and so is really well connected.
We are looking for venues to hold some Kendra sessions - so if you have any
contacts in Mumbai with office space or you'd be interested in sponsoring a
venue then let me know. We'll also be talking about our involvement in the
cutting-edge 4 year 14M EUR research project - P2P-Next and our hopes and
desires for Saracen, where we'll be exploring the interplay between P2P
content distribution and social networking.
If you're based in Mumbai or would be interested in attending/supporting
some face-to-face meetings then also get in touch - just reply to this
email. You can track our plans at:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/wiki/wiki.pl?KendraWorldTour
Also, really excited to be collaborating with Music2Deal, which enables
artists, managers, producers, publishers and record labels to communicate
with each other and sign deals.
2. KNIGHT NEWS CHALLENGE ENCOURAGES KENDRA HUB RESUBMISSION
A few days ago I received an email from Jose of the Knight News Challenge -
below. They like our proposal - http://cli.gs/6qsJN9 - but it needs more
work. I need your help if you can spare some brain cycles. We need to
choose a local community to pilot the project and I think London would be a
great place to do this and we have many Kendra members situated there.
Also, London is not in the USA (don't you know?) and Knight News Challenge
does have an international remit. We'll be working on the resubmission
here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/wiki/wiki.pl?KendraHub
And discussing it here on the kGen list from here:

Subject: RE: Knight, Drupal and Kendra Hub...
Daniel,
Overall you have a good project. The main concern is that it might be only
a huge software product, instead of a project that uses digital media to
improve local community. To advance in the contest it is really important
that you make an emphasis on how you meet the three main criteria.
When talking about the local community it is really important to not only
say that your project can be used in any community, which is of course
great, but to state the specific local community where you will develop or
pilot test the project. I did not read about a community where the project
would be pilot tested in your proposal.
Once you have that covered it is important to demonstrate the panel that
you know the landscape of what you are proposing to do. That you know what
already exists, what is out there that is similar to your project. You do
this well in your proposal, but you need to be really clear on how your
project is different than anything else that is out there or unique.
It is also important to talk about sustainability. How are you going to
keep the project running after the grant. It is even better if you are able
to show that you have a plan to start doing that even before the grant
ends.
And finally, it is extremely important that you are able to explain
everything clearly and concisely. Avoid using technical language. Try
explaining your project in simple words that anybody can understand.
I hope this is helpful information.
All best, Jose.

3. KENDRA HUB COMPETITION EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 15TH - STILL TIME TO
COMMENT
Please take a few moments to add your voice of support to the proposal -
every little comment will help. Thanks to all of you that have done this so
far! See:

4. HAPPY FESTIVITIES - GO FOR YOUR BIG DREAM IN 2010
Whether you are up top or down below I'd like to wish you a very happy
festive season. This is a very exciting time for Kendra. In 2010 we will be
participating in two concurrent EC funded projects - and further bids will
be in the pipeline - we're on a roll. If I was to say "I never dreamed this
was possible" I would not be telling the truth. I've dreamed BIG and you've
dreamed BIG with me. Thanks for this.
Now more than ever we need BIG dreams and people who are prepared to stick
with them through thick and thin. Aim high! Like never before there is
massive opportunity to make this world a far better, fun and more
nourishing place to live for every one of us. I wish you all the power of
persistence in your chosen mission. Never give up!
And make sure you have lots of fun along the way. ;-)
Cheers Daniel
