1. KENDRA INITIATIVE CROSS-MEDIA METADATA SUMMIT
FRONTLINE CLUB LONDON 09/03/2007
CONTENT DESCRIPTION, SEARCH AND DISCOVERY
How do content owners increase visibility of their content? Do we need more
metadata standards for cross-media description, search and discovery?
What's wrong with ones we already have? Does more effort need to be made to
implement those that already exist? Should standards groups build more
end-user tools? What are the drivers for industry adoption? Can we make the
tools simpler and easier to use?
We'll have answers (and yet more questions) from many sectors in the media
content industry. Additionally, we'll hear from search engines, image
archives, record labels, film companies and more.
The day will feature short, sharp business strategy and technology
briefings from many experts in media, technology and data management
industries, trade associations, academia, community, open source and
standards groups. We hope that practitioners will benefit from the
experiences of their counterparts in other arts and media sectors. We'll be
identifying areas requiring further investigation to drive adoption of
metadata syndication ecosystems.
Places will be restricted to experts. If you qualify then register by
clicking your personalised link at the bottom of this email. For more
details see:

Many thanks to Makeni - http://www.makeni.com - for sponsoring this
summit.
2. KENDRA SIGNPOSTS - CROSS-MEDIA METADATA STANDARD
If search engines knew more details about your content and provided richer
search tools could that bring more potential consumers to your door? Can
you stay in control of your catalogue database?
Kendra Signposts will assist content owners to describe and advertise their
digital media; content consumers to find and purchase the digital media
that they want and search engines or applications to provide richer and
more accurate search results.
Peter Buckingham, Head Of Distribution and Exhibition at the UK Film
Council, said at a recent Kendra Initiative meeting "the biggest threat is
obscurity".
Kendra Signposts will provide a standardised framework with which to richly
describe digital media files and live streams. Content owners, aggregators
and online stores will be able to publish detailed information about the
digital media they are publishing.
Kendra Signposts will work across all digital media types. Content owners
will be provided with tools to build Kendra Signposts from their existing
datastores and will be in complete control of this information. To find out
more see:
