[kNews] Invite: Global Media Catalogue demonstrations...

Dear All,

We have meetings planned for March, April and May. Please register via your
personal quick links at the bottom of this email...

NEXT MEETING MONDAY 22 MARCH, CENTRAL LONDON
We'll be demonstrating the Global Media Catalogue concept. We'll have
presentations from content publishers (Romek Szczesniak of Spiky Black Cat)
and developers (Neil Harris, creator of Sohonet).

We invite content publishers that have a catalogue database and want to see
the building of a demonstrator. We don't need huge catalogues - small is
desirable at this stage. Of most interest is diversity of data about the
content: what, where, when, how, who, timings, industry codes, etc.

We invite developers (business and software/technical) that grasp the
concept and want to see it demonstrated.

THE FRUSTRATION RIGHT NOW
There are many legal websites/databases holding snippets of media catalogue
but there is no way to easily search and query all these catalogues in one
hit with results returned in a coherent and usable format (Google just
doesn't cut it). We aim to change that.

FUNDAMENTAL KEY TO DRIVING ADOPTION
Make it easy - this means not forcing content publishers to adhere to a
specific database structure but let us use our current structure,
terminology and language and modify as we wish. This very much links in
with W3C's (the creators of the web) vision of the semantic web which we
will discuss in the meeting. We are very much not alone in wanting these
things.
