Dear All,
On today's menu from planet Kendra we have:

2. Funding from EU: eContent programme
3. Funding from US: request for comments
4. Digital Download Day: free legal music trial
5. Kendra Foundation nearing incorporation
6. Richard Tierney presents at IIR's Telecoms Transmission Networking
7. Penton's Streaming Media Europe and Content Management endorsed
8. Event summary
1. Funding from UK: DTI's Broadband Content Pilots Study
The Department of Trade and Industry in the UK is funding projects to fuel
the growth of broadband. After being interviewed for a DTI study project
and having read the final report I felt compelled to question the authors
on their conclusions. And, to my delight, they've entered into a discussion
on our kGen list. Their goals seem very similar to Kendra Initiative but
their recommendations seem to miss the need for an underlying informational
infrastructure. You can see my first post here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-general/msg00118.html
and click through to view the discussion. I'm continuing to make inroads
into the DTI in my quest to find the people that make the decisions!
2. Funding from EU: eContent programme
The European Commission's eContent workprogramme is funding European
digital content projects. I was invited to an eContent consultation meeting
in Luxembourg on 12/09/2002. After attending I made some comments that you
can see here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-general/msg00119.html
and click through to view the discussion. You can also see Kendra
Initiative making itself heard on the eContent site here:
http://www.content-village.org/articles.asp?id=171#3
3. Funding from US: request for comments
I think that says it all. If you have any ideas of where we should go
looking then do speak up on our kGen discussion list. There's definitely
funding available it's just a question of how and where and when. I'm
thinking Kendra Foundation could assist groups of Kendra Participants to
get funds to work on the Kendra project. You can see more detail here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-general/msg00128.html
4. Digital Download Day: free legal music trial
So, check it out here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-general/msg00129.html
and click through to view the discussion detailing improvements that could
be made to win over the file sharing p2p users.
5. Kendra Foundation nearing incorporation
Well, I've got an accountant and a lawyer - you can see 'em here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-framework/msg00082.html
and as it says I could do with some support on what the memorandum and
articles of association for Kendra Foundation should say as it's a
non-profit limited by guarantee company. Progress is being made so things
are groovy! ;-)
6. Richard Tierney presents at IIR's Telecoms Transmission Networking
Please give a big cheer for Richard who'll be out there in Spain spreading
word of Kendra Initiative. He'll be "Determining The Future Network
Requirements Of Content Providers" on Monday 04/11/2002. Nice one and good
luck!

planners need to be aware of how they will interwork the event covers the
full range of networking technologies including, SDH, Ethernet, IP, MPLS,
IPSec, ATM, BFWA, VPNs, RPR, GFP and WDM. And with 22 operator and service
