[kNews] News: W3C, IETF and other acronyms...

Dear All,

This field report comes to you live from Hong Kong...

- Asia Report - Tim Berners-Lee questioned
- The IETF are coming!
- Broadband Network Services - Andi Freeman talks
- Broadband Content World Europe 2001 - Daniel Harris talks
- Event summary

Asia Report - Tim Berners-Lee questioned
----------------------------------------

Just before leaving for Asia I spoke at DDMI and attended the CODE
conference. Good contacts were made at both events. Shortly after I arrived
in Hong Kong I was interviewed on Stardust TalkRadio about Kendra. It was a
fun chat with Scott and Tina. You'll find a link to it here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/news.php#Reports

Spoke at Carriers World Asia. Much interest from sub-aqua-cable-layers
(?!). Skipped over to Thailand for a bit of trekking (and how hot!). Back
to Hong Kong for Streaming Media Asia. Made good contacts with Asian
webcasters. Blagged my way into the 10th W3C conference on a press pass
(well, needs must!) and asked Tim Berners-Lee (the guy who invented HTML
for those that don't know) a question on patents in his keynote speech
question time (well, no one else wanted to!).

May 21st will see me leaving my job at Atlantic. I just want to assure you
that I'll still be working on Kendra and that it carries on independent of
any other company.

The IETF are coming!
--------------------

It's been suggested that we get more involved in the next IETF meeting in
London in August. I've posted a more detailed email to the kDevelopers list
for those that are interested. You'll find it in the web archive here:
http://www.kendra.org.uk/lists/archive/k-developers/msg00008.html

It could also be a good time to hold some kind of Kendra gathering...?

Broadband Content World Europe 2001 - Daniel Harris talks
---------------------------------------------------------

Come along and heckle Douglas Adams and me. In their own words...

"Content Providers will have the Most Significant Part to Play in
Stimulating Broadband Revenues from Broadband Networks" (Source:
Report launched at Asia Telecom 2000).

As revenue from voice deteriorates, delivery of quality bundled content
will be the crucial competitive point of differentiation for broadband
service providers. Competition will continue to increase between different
broadband devices and delivery platforms. Killer applications, cutting edge
content and additional services will inevitably drive mass-market migration
to broadband. LEAD THIS BROADBAND RACE! Broadband Content World Europe 2001
offers you the right marketing exposure to this lucrative content delivery
network!

BROADBAND CONTENT WORLD 2001 is where broadband content meets delivery
Europe's Only Dedicated Broadband Content Show Where Broadband Partnerships
Are Formed Bringing Together Broadband Service Providers and Broadband
Content Owners.

The conference takes place:
