[kGen] RE: Vote: Kendra Hub at Knight News Challenge!...
Thanks to Daniel for circulating this. I worked on an entry for the Knight News Challenge last year, and there were some really interesting projects. I'm reposting it because the deadline has been extended to December 15th, so there's more time to comment and work on it.
The Knight Foundation http://www.knightfoundation.org plans to give up to $5 million a year for innovative ideas that develop platforms, tools and services to inform and transform community news.
It's good to see Kendra getting involved in a project about news as well as entertainment content. The recent speeches that Rupert Murdoch and the News International team have been making about paywalls and getting more revenue out of Google suggests that business models around the discovery of news content are going to develop quite significantly.
Daniel, it would be good if you could explain how this fits into the bigger picture of what Kendra is doing withP2P-Next, Kendra Signposts, Kendra Trials and so on.
Regards
Gordon Rae

Subject: Vote: Kendra Hub at Knight News Challenge!...
Hi there Gordon,
I hope this email finds you bursting with ideas and motivation...
VOTE FOR KENDRA HUB AT KNIGHT NEWS CHALLENGE
We are bidding for 300K USD to create Kendra Hub. See:
http://cli.gs/6qsJN9
Please give us 5 stars and make comments. I have 2 days to make amendments to the application! Please pass this on to your networks.
Kendra Hub will not be a service like MySpace or Facebook but free open source software that creators and content owners (writers, artists, musicians, filmmakers, record labels...) will use to manage their digital media assets and interact with their online distribution points and social communities. So, this means that creators and content owners only need to enter their files and metadata (about news, events, tracks, images, videos, profiles...) once and they will be syndicated/transformed to the appropriate distribution points. They will be in control.
EDGE INTERCONNECT - SAVING THE INTERNET?
By interconnecting ISPs at the edge of the network, Edge Interconnect will allow the most popular media traffic to move to P2P without incurring backhaul bandwidth costs. For popular on demand or live material this will bring massive savings for both ISPs and content providers whilst dramatically improving the consumer experience by allowing higher-bandwidth content to be viewed and exchanged. Novel Internet architectures and technologies will be employed to maximise the efficiency, speed and quality of EuropeÃââs consumer Internet experience.
For those wanting to get involved with a cutting edge EU funded project see:

Again, pass it on to those who may be interested.
Good luck with your endeavours! ;-)
Cheers Daniel
