Re: [kFW] Company formation and funding...

Daniel wrote this as part of his earlier reply to another "Scott" [Switzer]

Kendra Foundation would exist to provide organisational, legal, and
financial support for Kendra Initiative. Kendra Foundation would ensure
that Kendra Initiative trials continue to exist beyond the participation of
interested organisations and individual volunteers, to enable contributions
of intellectual property and funds on a sound basis, and to provide a
vehicle for limiting legal exposure while participating in the trials and
contributing to software projects. Kendra Foundation would provide hosting
for the Kendra Initiative website and develop web/email tools to facilitate
the collaborative design process, between Kendra Initiative participants,
necessary to create the Kendra system. Coordinating marketing efforts,
meetings and conferences. I'm sure there's more...

How does that sound? Thanks to Apache Software Foundation for 'inspiration'
on wording.

Isn't "the Kendra system" just what the Broadband Content Delivery Forum
www.bcdforum.org are all about already?

Check out what they demonstrated at a recent US Industry Show. It all looks
pretty similar to me -- certainly it seems the kind of initiative most
potential players in this market should be thinking about. See what they
created at
http://www.bcdforum.org/public/events/supercomm2002/download/Supercomm%20BCD%20Network.pdf
-- a very long link that may need rejoining.

As Kendra is already a participant in the BCD Forum [I hesitate to say
"member" as the fees look pretty stiff] might there not be some
collaborative mileage in setting up the European end of BCD Forum and use
their legal/staffing/funding skills rather than starting out from scratch
upon what I assure you will be a very dreary grind.

Kind regards

Scott Pollard

the _sole_ is of a shoe, or a flat fish ;-)
