Scott, thanks so much for clarifying the issues. Reading the GNU GPL, it
seems, from what I can tell, to rely on copyright law. So, it seems you are
right, free software is one of many ways of asserting one's rights as a
content owner (copyright holder).
As content owner rights are an important part of the content value chain, I
can only agree with you that the Kendra system must enable the transport of
these rights along with the content. The Kendra system must enable content
owners to manage their rights as they see fit and not get in the way.
Indeed, as you say, by enabling these rights to flow, on an all inclusive
basis, the rights of free software (and all content) owners can be
expressed to the end users.
I do hope that more people will follow Richard Stallman's example in
expressing their requirements for the Kendra system. Only through
understanding these desires we will be able to build it.
