I don't think you're point is cynical at all. In fact, I think it's spot
on. We need to market the heck out the idea. We need to build market
acceptance before we build the product. That's what Kendra is all about:
marketing to build acceptance to then gather requirements to then specify
the technology.
>Generating the scalable model for content will be driven down two paths
Why only 2? Here's the list I've got: subscription, pay-per-play,
pay-to-own, pre-pay, pay-nothing, pay-what-you-think-it's-worth
(donations), pay-for-time, pay-for-data, pay-some-other-way or a
combination of all those options. And payment methods could be credit
cards, direct debits, bank transfers, cash, cheque, electronic wallets,
credit tokens, premium rate phone calls, etc...
But really, who are we to say how the consumer pays the seller? Moreover,
why should we feel the need to get involved? Why don't we just let the
consumer talk direct to the content owner/seller? Let's just enable them to
talk and use any payment system that works for them. Please do read "Kendra
- An Introduction":
http://www.kendra.org.uk/documents/kendra-an-introduction-draft-current.html
where we talk about why we should "get out of the way" of the consumer and
the content owner.
I'll have to read the books another day! ;-)
Cheers Daniel
