Hi John,

Good to hear from you...

On a more practical note I do have rack space in both Telehouse and

proffer a server depending on the spec. Our standard 1u rack models are
supermicro's 2Gcpu, 1Gram, 2 x 40G drives and whatever flavour of OS and an
APC remote reboot through a web browser.
Let me know

In short, YES! It all sounds great. In the past I've always held off taking up these offers of bandwidth and servers because I've never had a sysadmin. But I've changed a wee bit and understand that one needs to create an environment for one's desires to be realised. Hence, right now we don't have a sysadmin but I'm sure one will appear once we get this server. So, in short, yes and much thanks.

Your choice on location - we'll never need to physically access the box. Your standard 1u rack model sounds absolutely fine - though more disk space would be good - so we can store more media files for the Network Trial.

The box will be used for development work. Bandwidth will not become an issue. I'm always keen to demonstrate that Kendra Initiative is not a service provider and so streaming (other than for test work) should not happen from that box but rather from Network Trial Participant boxes.

OS? Linux? What are the options? Comments anyone?

This box would be owned by you and on loan to Kendra Foundation, yes?

Let me know if you need more info.

I know this might be a bit cynical and maybe Daniel you've used a definition that isn't that metaphorical, but working in the music business for years it's normally much more like 33.3% the singer, 33.3% the drummer and 33.3%
the bass player until it's a hit and then it's 100% the singer and the
others were hired help! But I know that's not the Kendra philosophy.

;-) The ability to modify these relationships is really important. These relationships are time based so "X was said then but Y is said now" should be recognised. So, changing the split is OK so long as all the parties that "authored" the first assigning-of-the-split agree with it. But if they can't agree we'll end up with multiple versions of the split each authored by a different member of the band. That's OK. If I have a wodge of royalty money to give to the band and I see there's differing opinions on the split then I could do one of the following: pay to my favourite band member, divide it up equally, get the fans to decide, or hold back the money until they agree on a formula. It's up to all parties to work it out.

It's Kendra's philosophy to enable people to do what they want to do - total freedom. If a person or persons doing "what they want to do" creates a less desired world then it's up to the rest of the people to explain/show/educate that these "doings" don't work to create the desired world.

Cheers Daniel
